Navidrome is a self-hosted music server that lets you stream your own music library from anywhere. Record Collection is an Android client built to recreate the experience of standing in front of your shelves - flicking through covers, stumbling on something you forgot you owned, and just putting it on. Pick a record. Play it through. That's it.
Every other music app is built around search. You know what you want, you type it, you get it. Record Collection works differently - because sometimes the best listening happens when you don't know exactly what you want yet.
Scroll through your covers. Pause on something. Remember why you bought it. The whole point is the browse - the happy accident of landing on an album you haven't played in years. That's what vinyl does. That's what this app does.
Albums aren't a container for songs - they're a statement. The running order is intentional. Track one leads to track two for a reason. Artists spend months sequencing records so that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. An album is already a playlist. The one the artist made for you.
Shuffle destroys that. Playlists ignore it. Record Collection doesn't offer either. You press play on an album and you hear it the way it was meant to be heard - start to finish.
There is no autoplay. No "up next". No algorithm filling the void. When the last track finishes, the music stops - and you decide what to put on.
That pause is part of the ritual. It's the moment you stand up, walk to the shelf, and choose. Intentional listening means being intentional about what comes next. Record Collection gives you that moment back.
